Andomal of Ingwil Is Killed

De brief voor de Koning

Sir Andomaar of Ingewel was killed by warriors from Eviellan in the Southwind Range while making his way toward Unauwen. Announced during King Unauwen’s gathering, his death turned the suspected failure of Eviellan’s peace overture into a further loss for the kingdom and sharpened the question of whether the proposed peace had concealed a trap.

The News and Its Circumstances

King Unauwen reported that Sir Andomaar would never return to Ingewel: Eviellan’s warriors had killed him in the Southwind Range. The news arrived in a letter from the Crown Prince, carried by a carrier pigeon from the City of the South. The King had received it only an hour before telling those assembled.

The letter was brief, and the King expected further news. He explained that Sir Andomaar’s squire had escaped and reached the City of the South on the same day as Tiuri and Piak. Sir Andomaar, too, had been travelling toward Unauwen, perhaps carrying news like that entrusted to Tiuri by the murdered knight Edwinem. The parallel connected the new death to the perilous journey already undertaken by Tiuri and Piak, without yet revealing what Sir Andomaar had known.

The Announcement and Its Reception

The King’s announcement was met by a deathly silence. Grief, shock, and anger appeared across the faces in the hall. King Unauwen remembered Sir Andomaar as a brave knight and faithful paladin, and those present bowed their heads in remembrance of the man who would not return to Ingewel.

Tiuri pictured the beautiful forest and the village beside the lake. His forebodings had come true, and the news made him wonder whether Eviellan’s offer of peace had been a snare intended to draw the knights into danger. The suspicion arose in the wake of the killing; the account presents it as Tiuri’s question, not as a confirmed explanation of the attack.

Consequences and Significance

Sir Andomaar’s death added another Eviellan attack to the news surrounding Edwinem, who had fled Eviellan and was killed by Red Riders in the Kingdom of Dagonaut. Together, the deaths made the proclaimed desire for peace increasingly difficult to trust. Yet the brief report did not settle the full circumstances: the escaped squire might bring further testimony, and Sir Andomaar’s possible connection to Edwinem’s intelligence remained uncertain.

The announcement therefore functions both as mourning and warning. The bowed heads honour a lost paladin, while Tiuri’s recollection of the forest and lakeside village places the new violence against landscapes and communities already shadowed by danger. Sir Andomaar’s death widens the threat facing those travelling toward Unauwen and leaves the alleged peace between the kingdoms under suspicion.
